First responders and military members deal with controlling chaotic situations and bringing peace during times of great hopelessness. They are the ones you call when you need help and are at your most vulnerable. But who do they call when they need help and things are out of their control?

Being in the law enforcement field for over 20 years, my wife and I have seen people’s life change in an instant and when they least expect it. I can tell you from firsthand experience that is one of the scariest and humbling situations and often times we don’t want to ask for help.

Back in 2011 my family member suffered a traumatic brain injury requiring emergency surgery and long-term care. My fellow Officers as well as several organizations stepped up and helped me in my time of need. I didn’t know most of these people, yet they knew I needed help. Now it is our turn to do the same through the game of cornhole.

Cornhole has always been popular but has skyrocketed in interest over the past couple of years. Part of that is due to the inclusiveness of the sport. Anyone can play and everyone has a chance to win. It brings people and families together through easy-going competition, and in that can help bring moments of joy to those individuals in despair. Coming together for a cause while making a difference in people’s lives at the same time.
